Arriving in Casablanca with a rental car arranged can make the next part of your journey easier. The most useful preparation is to agree on the handover details before you fly. This ALCARS guide helps you organise the booking conversation, inspect the vehicle and prepare your return without leaving important questions until the airport.
1. Send the details that affect your pickup
Give the rental team your arrival date, flight number, expected landing time, pickup location and return plan. Include the number of passengers and the luggage you expect to carry. Four people with large suitcases may need a different vehicle from four people travelling with cabin bags.
Ask whether the quoted pickup time means your landing time or the time you expect to reach the meeting point. Immigration, baggage collection and walking out of the terminal take time. Agree on how the team will handle a delay and whether waiting or an out-of-hours handover can change the price.
2. Confirm the meeting point in writing
Do not assume that every rental provider has a desk inside the terminal. Ask where the representative will meet you, how to recognise them and which number to call if you cannot find each other. Keep the confirmation available offline, together with the provider’s name and your booking reference.
If your flight changes, send the new information as soon as you can. If you will not have mobile data on arrival, discuss a backup contact plan before departure. Avoid sending identity documents to an unfamiliar number; confirm that you are speaking with the team handling your booking.
3. Compare the complete quote
A daily rate does not answer every booking question. Request a written breakdown for your exact dates and vehicle. Before confirming, check:
- The rental total, currency and accepted payment method.
- The security deposit, how it is collected and the conditions for its release.
- The insurance included, any excess and the main exclusions.
- The mileage allowance and the price of any additional distance.
- The fuel level required at return.
- Any airport delivery, late pickup, extra driver or child-seat charge.
- The cancellation conditions and the procedure for changing your booking.
Keep the agreed conditions with your booking confirmation. If an item is unclear, ask before paying or signing. The rental agreement for your booking takes precedence over a general checklist.
4. Prepare your documents and luggage plan
Ask the provider which original documents are required for each driver and whether any additional requirements apply to your licence or chosen vehicle. Prepare those documents before the handover. Confirm any driver-age, licence-history or payment-card conditions directly with the rental team rather than assuming that all providers use the same rules.
If travelling with children, reserve the equipment you need and confirm its availability and suitability in advance. Also check the transmission type. An automatic should be explicitly confirmed if that is what you need; a vehicle photograph alone cannot establish the specification.
5. Inspect the car before leaving
Walk around the vehicle with the representative in a well-lit place. Check the bodywork, wheels, glass, mirrors and interior. Have existing marks recorded on the handover document. Take clear photographs of the vehicle’s condition, the fuel gauge and the mileage reading, and keep a copy of the signed record.
Check the lights and dashboard for warning indicators. Adjust the seat and mirrors, locate the main controls and ask which fuel the vehicle uses. Make sure luggage is secure and that the vehicle has the equipment agreed for your booking. Raise any concern while the representative is still present.
6. Make the first drive simple
Choose your first destination before starting the engine and prepare the route while parked. Download a map for offline use if you may lose data coverage. If you arrive tired, allow time to rest before driving and keep the first day’s plans realistic.
A hotel address can be more useful than its name alone. Save its exact location and ask about parking and access before you travel. For an unfamiliar entrance or a narrow street, stop safely and confirm directions instead of making a rushed manoeuvre.
7. Plan the return at the beginning
Confirm the return location, the person receiving the car and the procedure if your departure time changes. Ask how the return inspection will be recorded and how the deposit release works for your payment method. Leave room in your schedule for fuel, traffic, handover and airport formalities.
At return, remove your belongings, check storage compartments and disconnect your phone from the vehicle’s system. Keep the return record and any receipts until the rental is closed.
